Overview
About the event
The inaugural FIDE World Rapid Team Championship took place in Düsseldorf, Germany, organised by FIDE in partnership with WR Logistics GmbH. Around 300 participants — professionals, club players and strong amateurs — competed across 12 rounds of Swiss-system team rapid over three days for a €250,000 prize fund.
WR Chess won the title with 22 of 24 match points (10 wins, 2 draws), finishing a clear two points ahead and clinching gold with a round to spare. The all-star roster featured Wesley So, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, R Praggnanandhaa and Vincent Keymer, with former Women's World Champions Hou Yifan and Alexandra Kosteniuk rotating on the women's board, Wadim Rosenstein on board six and Jan Gustafsson as captain.
Freedom, led by Viswanathan Anand, took silver on 20 points; the largely Indian team MGD1 took bronze on 18.
