Overview
About the event
Bughouse (Tandem Chess) is a two-board team variant where captured pieces are passed to your partner. WR Chess is staging the first major championship dedicated to the format.
Day 1 is a 12-round Swiss qualification; the top 8 teams advance to a knockout bracket on Day 2 — quarterfinals, semifinals, a third-place match, and a final. Each knockout match consists of two games, with sudden-death deciders if tied. Time control: 5 minutes per player, no increment.
The event features a unique Promised Promotion rule: when a pawn reaches the back rank, the promoting player may declare the promotion piece in advance, giving their teammate the right to immediately remove a corresponding piece from the opponent's board.
Sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines and supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).
